Trial for Stanley Prison Inmates Delayed Again
Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 -- 8:19 AM
-The jury trial against two Stanley Prison inmates that attempted an escape back in 2010 has been postponed. In January of 2010, Eddie Evans, age 59, Jimmy Baldwin, age 34, and Henry Spencer, age 27, had release documents forged to get early releases. Evans and Baldwin did escape, but were caught a few days later. Spencer was caught before he was released.
Spencer was already found guilty and sentenced for his part in the crime. He had an extra year and half added onto the sentence he?s serving for armed robbery.
A four day trial for Evans and Baldwin was supposed to start on Tuesday of next week, but now after Eddie Evans filed a Notice of Appeals and sent it to the Court of Appeals, all further court proceedings have been stayed until the appeals are completed.
Evans and Baldwin are hoping the case will be dismissed as they claim evidence was acquired illegally and their rights were violated.
It is unknown when and if these proceedings would continue. A decision from the Court of Appeals will decide the outcome of the case.
