Christie Building Discussed at Neillsville City Council Meeting
Thursday, February 28th, 2013 -- 1:06 PM
-The one and only item of business brought up during the Tuesday Neillsville City Council meeting was the Christie Building. The battle over the building has continued for some time now. As it stands, an inspection was conducting this week to see if the building is up to code. A trial when begin in Clark County court early next week to determine the fate of the building.
However, the Historic Preservation Commission would like to place the building on the Local Historic Preservation Register.
The city attorney pointed out that it can be done, but even if the building is on the register and during the trial the building is not up to code yet, a judge could order to have it razed, leaving the register mute.
So the question was asked, should we do this now? The council wondered if putting it on the register wasn?t one last hurdle the owners of the building were trying to put in place.
It was determined that was not the case and the council agreed that, when the time comes, the building will probably be placed on the register.
