Elementary Principal's Report at Neillsville School Board Meeting
Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 -- 8:20 AM
-The Neillsville School Board Meeting started with a report from Neillsville Elementary Principal Tim Rueth.Mr. Rueth mentioned a few minor items including the high attendance at the recent Parent Teacher Conference and that this week is Dr. Seuss week.
To celebrate, teachers have been decorating their doors with Dr. Seuss characters and, on Friday, the entire school will take time out of the day to read. And in case you?re wondering what Dr. Seuss character is on Mr. Rueth?s door; it?s the Grinch. School Board Clerk Deanna Heiman also took a brief moment to thank Mr. Rueth for all his help during the Winter Carnival.
The main item brought up during Mr. Rueth?s report was a new initiative the district would like to try regarding Summer School.
A committee of teachers was looking for an efficient way to get kids ready for school again in the fall and make sure there isn?t as much regression over the summer. The idea is to split summer school up and have two weeks in June, starting the 17th, and two weeks in August, starting the 12th. The course would remain the same and they would provide the same level of learning as done in the past.
One concern brought up was the student count and the school?s fiscal year. District Administrator John Gaier, said the student count would remain unchanged if this summer school program was done and the budget would need to be tweaked a little for the August portion of Summer School, but June is already budgeted and covered.
There has been a lot of positive and excited feedback from teachers about the initiative, but Mr. Rueth did admit that he?s not sure how many kids would attend with this new set up.
