Granton Man Sentenced for 7th OWI

Friday, February 19th, 2021 -- 10:00 AM

A Granton man was sentenced for his 7th OWI in Clark County Court on Thursday.

According to court records, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department was called to an accident on Sherwood Road in the Town of Levis. According to the caller, they noticed a man in a vehicle in the ditch.

When officers arrived, they found Philip Weichelt in his vehicle in the ditch. He was taken to an area medical facility where he was treated for minor injuries and given a sobriety test. He admitted to drinking earlier in the day and said he swerved to avoid hitting a deer when he drove into the ditch.

According to the individuals who found Weichelt, he asked them not to call the police because if they did he “would go to jail for a really long time.” Weichelt was charged with his 7th OWI and 7th Operating with PAC.

He entered a no contest plea to the charges against him and was found guilty.  Sentencing was withheld and he was put on probation for 3 years.
