(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Even after making a few adjustments from the previous month, USDA officials are still projecting some new crop yield records in the Badger State this fall.

The National Ag Statistics Service's monthly Crop Production report said corn output is forecast at 534 million bushels, with yields of about 184 bushels per acre. If realized, it would be the highest yield on record, surpassing the 178 bushels farmers averaged per acre in 2016. The agency also says 2.9 million acres of corn will be harvested for grain by year's end.  Soybean production is forecast at 105 million bushels. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 53 bushels per acre, down two bushels from the October forecast, but up six bushels per acre from last year.

Growers are also on track to see the highest yield on 1.98 million acres being harvested.  The fall potato harvest should come in at 28.3 million hundredweight. Yields are forecast at 410 cwt per acre, unchanged from 2019.  Nationally, corn farmers are expected to harvest 14.5 billion bushels, which is seven percent more than last year's output. Soybeans are forecast at 14.17 billion bushels, with yields projected to average 50.7 bushels per acre.  The final corn and soybean production estimates for the past growing season will be published on January 12, 2021.
