-During the Lunch-N-Learn session on Monday, Chris Straight, of West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, gave an interesting look at the Placemaking program.During his presentation, he gave an example of a local community that took part in the program. Owen did a placemaking program in July of last year.
In its comprehensive plan, adopted in 2005, the city recognized the need for a more vibrant and visually appealing downtown to help improve community identity and build on assets like the Old School.
Four nodes, or places of interest, were identified during the program. The city then made a list of things that could be done to make those places more appealing and improve the downtown area of Owen.
The nodes are the Old School, Central Avenue and 5th Street Intersection, the Owen Library, and Mill Pond Park.
Some simple examples given to improve the area were add seating, add flowers and planters, various landscaping, add signs and banners, offer outdoors events and more.
One resident at the Lunch-N-Learn session said, ?Owen has improved a lot since they did this program. I like going through there now to see what they've added.?
