-First City Dental in Abbotsford might have been closed Friday, but inside, staff members were busy providing much-needed preventive dental care for Colby and Abbotsford students.According to the Marshfield News Herald, It?s all a part of the Seal-a-Smile program started 13 years ago in an attempt to address a public health concern among Clark County health officials.
A total of 138 second-grade students had sealants placed on their back molars, along with a full dental checkup. Parents are then notified if their child has cavities, or needs more dental work.
An estimated 9,530 low-income children were provided with free dental care this year during 'Wisconsin's' Give Kids a Smile events, which was created in 2002 to build upon the Seal-a-Smile initiative started two years earlier.
