-New charges have been filed against the Marshfield man accused of killing his girlfriend.According to new information presented by the police, Gabriel Campos, age 21, tried to hire a hitman. Campos has been accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Maisie McCullough of Marshfield.
Back in November, Campos did plead guilty to the original homicide charge, but at his court appearance on Monday his attorney changed his plea to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Campos will be examined by a doctor.
According to a criminal complaint filed this month, Campos tried to pay another inmate to kill the man his ex-girlfriend was dating. It goes on to say Campos told the other inmate that Campos cut his ex-girlfriend's throat because she was seeing another man. Investigators say Campos told the inmate, "I can do all my time a lot easier if I knew he was dead."
Campos has been in jail since September of last year for the original homicide charge and is being held on a 5 million dollar cash bond. A 1 million dollar cash bond has been set for the charge filed against him on Monday.
Campos will appear in court again for the original charge in May and his trial when then start in June. He will appear in court again later this month for the new charge.
