Monday, February 4th, 2013 -- 8:29 AM
-Several area businesses were recognized for all their great contributions and service in 2012 by the Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce during their recognition banquet on Saturday. The American Legion Post 73 received an Anniversary Salute Award for 90 years in service. Dr. Greg Foster said, ?We are here tonight laughing and drinking and enjoying our freedom because of men who fought for that right.?
Rick Thoma accepted the award and gave a brief, but emotional speech. ?This award is for Clem Shultz,? he said, referring to the death of Neillsville resident and Legion member, Clemens Shultz.
Connie Opelt as well as special guest Matt Foely, made famous by Chris Farley on SNL and played here by Tom Opelt, presented Dr. Foster and Foster Primary Eye Care their Anniversary Salute Award for 75 years of service.
Dr. Foster said, ?We're one of the oldest family owned businesses in town and it's been a big part of our life. We really enjoy it.?
The next Anniversary Salute Award went to Grassland Veterinary Service for 30 years. A joke was made after the award was accepted that unlike regular doctors, veterinarians can eat their patients.
