-The Granton Community Library will be recognized by the Department of Public Instruction in the Capitol Rotunda today.A couple weeks ago, the library found out it would receive the Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Schools, Libraries, and Communities Award which recognizes projects that improves the quality of life in rural communities.
The Granton School District Library and the Granton Community library opened up its door in August after the two boards collaborated to share space and resources.
Kay Heiting, IMC Director at Granton, says that things have gone very well in the short time they've been open. "Things have been going wonderful. We have added about 3,000 square footage to our building space. We've added about 14,000 items to the community side that they are available for check out."
An application was filled out to receive the award back in September after a little coaxing from Granton?s Superintendent, Charles Buckel.
Kay has some wonderful long term goals for the community library. "I want to make sure that we get onto the V-Cat System. It would connect us to all the libraries in the Wisconsin Valley Library Service. Currently, we have that connection. But, we need to, as the library staff, and it takes about two weeks to get in."
That is just one of the goals Kay has in mind. Congratulations to Kay, the Granton Community, and Granton School District for receiving the Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Schools, Libraries, and Communities Award.
