Congressman Duffy Visits Neillsville, Part 1

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013 -- 8:22 AM

-Congressman Sean Duffy paid a visit to Neillsville on Monday.

The congressman spoke to a handful of residents at the Apple Valley Bar and Grill about various topics including the fiscal cliff deal, the country?s debt and spending, gun control, and others.

Before the congressman opened up the floor to hear questions and concerns from the citizens that attended, he provided some insight and his opinion into some recent things passed through Congress and the Senate.

Congressman Duffy said that he did vote against the fiscal cliff deal that was reached. ?There were some good things in the bill,? Duffy said. A few examples he gave included avoiding the ?Dairy Cliff,? no middle class tax increase, and avoiding a pay increase for the vice president and senators.

However, Duffy continued saying, ?There was not reduction in spending. There was nothing to help us balance the budget. I?m not going to vote for something that isn?t going to put us on the right course towards financial stability.?

He also mentioned the recent ?No budget, no pay? incentive that was pushed through Congress. The simple version of this act says that if Congress and the Senate fail to make a budget, they will not get paid. Congressman Duffy said that President Obama and the Senate seem supportive of the cause.
