Think Before You Get Behind The Wheel
Monday, December 31st, 2012 -- 10:00 AM
As you ring in the New Year, law enforcement across Wisconsin are asking you to think before you get behind the wheel. The Wisconsin DOT reports that nearly 600 drivers have died on the road this year, the most since 2007. The Wisconsin State Patrol says there are a number of factors in dangerous driving associated with the holidays including road conditions, speeding, and seat belt use, but alcohol continues to be one of the most troubling factors.
State Patrol Major, Sandra Huxtable is director of the Wisconsin DOT's Bureau of Transportation Safety and she says on average someone is killed or injured in an alcohol related crash about every 2 1/2 hours.
This New Years Eve, check to see if your local bar has a safe ride program otherwise it's best to have a designated driver or to call a cab if you have any doubts.
