Shop Local 30, Part 2, Final

-We have the final look at part 2 of the Shop Local 30 data for you.

The data, from a survey provided by the Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce, has shown that people often leave the community to buy a specific brand of product and tend to stop at several locations and shop when they go to another community. They also tend to pick up several items since they're already there.

The data also revealed some potential business opportunities for the Neillsville Community in pet supplies and crafts.

The data also found a market which wasn?t reflected adequately and that was office supplies.

?Although office supplies represented only about 2% of the entire amount spent outside of the city during the project period,? said Deanna Heiman, Executive Director of the NACC, ?Several business owners contacted the Chamber office to share their concerns about their need to travel or go online to purchase these products.?

Because items, like office supplies, might be purchased in bulk to reduce the need for travel, the campaign may have missed the mark simply by virtue of poor timing. ?Based on this direct input from local business owners, we might approach a local business about expanding existing inventory or we may have the perfect opportunity to set up a purchasing co-op to fill this need,? said Heiman.

As a small token of appreciation for their efforts, participants? names were entered into weekly drawings with prizes donated by local retailers. The winners are: week one ? Ina Mae Dux; week two ? Amy Schneider; week three ? Renee Schoen; and week four ? Peggy Erickson.

The NACC leadership team considers this first Shop Local 30 campaign to be a success.
