-We have more information on the shooting that took place in the City of Taylor in Jackson County on Wednesday evening.According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the victim, identified as Robert Schafer, age 25, was seen entering the vehicle of a woman who had taken a restraining order out on him.
A man, who was at the woman's home and the woman, went out to contact Schafer.
When they did, he approached Jarrod Thompson, age 31, in a threatening manner. Thompson then warned Schafer to stop and told him that he had a gun.
When Schafer ignored the warning, Thompson fired once at Schafer and hit him in the lower abdomen. He then fled the area.
Officers later discovered that Schafer was taken to a Whitehall hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound. The police tried to talk with him about the incident before he was airlifted to Gunderson Lutheran in La Crosse, but he refused to talk to officers.
Schafer was wanted by Jackson County for violating a restraining order against the woman involved as well as probation violations.
In the past several weeks, Schafer had committed several violations of the restraining order, other domestic acts, and then running from the scene before law enforcement could arrive.
