Wisconsin Farmers See a Perfect Week for Field Work
Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 -- 9:09 AM
(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -After three weeks of cold and wet weather conditions, farmers in the Badger State caught a nice break last week to finish their fall harvest and tillage activity.
The latest crop/weather summary from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service said 6.7 days were suitable for fieldwork, allowing producers the chance to combine corn, chop corn stalks, haul manure and work up fields for next year. Topsoil moisture levels were rated three percent very short, 13 percent short, 78 percent adequate and six percent surplus. As of Sunday, about 78 percent of the corn for grain was harvested, more than a month ahead of last year and nearly two weeks better than the five-year average. The moisture content was reported at 18 percent.
All but four percent of the soybeans are off the ground, which is also well beyond normal. Eighty-eight percent of the winter wheat was emerged and is rated at 84 percent good to excellent. And fall tillage was reported as 59 percent complete, about four weeks ahead of the same time in 2019 and nine days further along than normal.
