Clark County School Districts 2013 Education Summit

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 -- 8:35 AM

-Clark County school districts have a big event coming up in February of 2013 when they host the first annual Clark County Education Summit.

Deanna Heiman, Neillsville School Board clerk, told me how the idea for the summit started. "For over two years now, we've had nine school districts in Clark County that have been meeting every other month discussing topics related to education. We bring in guest speakers and things like that. Those school districts would be Abbotsford, Colby, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Spencer, and Thorp.

Deanna then explained that it began when they came up with some attainable goals. "Just recently, we sat down and compiled a list of goals on what we'd really like to accomplish, what we, first of all, think is a realistic thing for our group to accomplish and then setting time frames against those to make everything attainable?.

The summit will be an excellent way for districts to share ideas and problems that they are facing in the district.

The summit is going to have one main focus. "The 2013 Education Summit will be held in Greenwood. We're going to focus on the business to education connection. What we've discussed is that the healthy connection between education and business is vital."

The focus on business and education has already helped the districts prepare students for different manufacturing jobs in Clark County that need a technical degree. A general consensus with manufacturers had been the lack of skilled workers.

The summit will be open to business owners, elected officials, state legislators, local leaders, school board members and superintendents.
