Clark County Register of Deeds Looking Forward to Retirement

Monday, October 29th, 2012 -- 1:12 PM

-The last few months of the year are proving to be rather bittersweet for Lois Hagedorn, Clark County?s Register of Deeds.

Lois will be retiring once her term expires at the end of the year. Lois told me when she started and a brief history of her past elections. "I was elected into the position in 1999 so I have a total of 14 years at the end of my term this year. For my first election, I had both a primary and general election with an opponet in both and also in 2004 I had an opponet. Back then the terms were every two years, now my last term has just changed to a four year term."

Lois explained why she first ran for the position and why she kept coming back. "I was ready for a change. I have worked for Clark County for 29 years. I was in the Sheriff's Department for six years and then I was in the Veteran's Service Office for nine years as a benefits counselor. I just decided I was ready to make a change and I felt I could do the job and so I wanted to give it a try. I enjoy record keeping. I don't know if everybody would enjoy that type of work, but I do. I like to keep track of things and always have."

Lois also enjoyed working with the people and the various challenges that arose when she was in the department which included the automation of offices, the transfer of paper documents into digital documents, and her last hurrah will be the updating of her departments? systems.

Finally, Lois talked about what she?s looking forward to in retirement. "I hope to do some volunteer work. I'm not the type of person to sit around and do nothing so my husband and I are planning some traveling. I definitely want to spend some time with family. I have four grandsons and I'm looking forward to spending time with them. Volunteering with our church. We work with the American Legion here in town."

Lois also wanted to express her gratitude to her wonderful staff over the years, especially Lynette Mueller, her real estate clerk.
