National Caregivers Month

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012 -- 10:04 AM

-November is fast approaching and most people tend to think of hunting and Thanksgiving when November finally arrives.

However, for Mary Sladich and the rest of the staff at the aging department at the Clark County Courthouse, they think of November as National Caregivers Month.

National Caregivers Month is a time to acknowledge the important role caregivers play in the lives of the elderly and disabled. Did you know that caregivers provide an estimated 450 billion dollars? worth of uncompensated care to loved ones annually?

Mary Sladich, the Director of the aging department talked about what a caregiver is, "anyone who cares for the elderly or disabled."

Mary said that they try very hard to match caregivers? personality with the individual that they are going to be helping and they are not afraid to make changes if necessary.

Mary also gave an example of one time things that churches, schools, and other groups can do to be a caregiver. "Just raking leaves or bringing someone a hot meal can be a nice thing for people to do."

If you?d like to learn more about the aging department, upcoming events, and volunteering feel free to call the Clark County Aging Department at 715-743-5144.
