-Governor Scott Walker and State Superintendent Tony Evers have applauded Wisconsin Schools for their outstanding performance with the release of the new report cards. Most schools did very well; however, Governor Walker said that there are still too many schools failing.
District Administrator of Neillsville, John Gaier, explained the grading categories for students when tracking a districts progression.
?The four categories are student achievement, student growth, closing gaps between groups, and on track and post-secondary education,? John said.
John continued, ?Student achievement is measure by using the reading and math subjects and students growth is measured by how they are testing and if it?s moving up or down.?
?Closing the gaps is best described as reducing the gaps between one group of kids that may have disadvantages, economically or even mentally and another group of kids that are considered to be at a better advantage.?
?On track and post-secondary education is measured in the elementary by 3rd grade reading scores and attendance. In high school it is measured by graduation rate, ACT performance and participation, and attendance.?
