New Report Cards Come Out Today

Monday, October 22nd, 2012 -- 8:54 AM

-The public will get their first look at the new report cards that the area schools will be using.

John Gaier, District Administrator of Neillsville explained the new report cards and the stringent rules and regulations that come with them.

The new report cards were put in place when the state of Wisconsin asked to be waived from the No Child Left Behind Act. When the waiver was approved, the state came up with its own process.

?This data provides a onetime snapshot from how a school was doing one or two years ago. And although it does measure a student?s progress, it doesn?t really track how the district has progressed in the past couple years,? John said.

John continued, ?Under this system, districts are given a grade of significantly exceeds expectations, exceeds expectations, meets expectations, meets few expectations, and fails expectations.?

?If a district fails expectations, then they are considered a priority and the Department of Education will come in and help improve the school.?

?If a district significantly exceeds expectations, then they are expected to talk about their best practices and how it can help other schools succeed.?
