Pheasant Season Opens Saturday
Sunday, October 14th, 2012 -- 9:44 AM
Wisconsin's pheasant hunting season is set open next Saturday. The season gets under way at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20. It will run through Dec. 31.
State Department of Natural Resources ecologists say hunters should look for areas that contain plenty of winter cover for the birds, such as marshes and dense brush. Hunters also should hone in on cropland and grassland that can provide food and nesting cover.
The agency estimates nearly 45,000 hunters killed just shy of 179,000 pheasants last year. The top harvest counties were Fond du Lac, Dodge and Polk.
