-Farmers are the backbone of the Wisconsin agriculture industry, but tractor rollovers remain the leading cause of deaths on farms. In an effort to make Wisconsin farmers safer, Marshfield Clinic?s 26th annual Auction of Champions, being held tomorrow, is aiming to raise $200,000, including $25,000 for its Fund-A-Need program that this year will support an initiative to improve the safety of central Wisconsin farmers.
One-hundred percent of Fund-A-Need proceeds will support a Rollover Protection Structure initiative, a program of the National Farm Medicine Center at Marshfield Clinic that encourages the installation of ROPs devices on tractors of local farm families in need.
A rollover protective structure refers to operator compartment structures, usually cabs or roll bars, intended to protect farmers from rollover injuries.
National data shows, tractors are the leading cause of death on farms, and 80 percent of rollover deaths happen to experienced farmers.
