Neillsville's Water System and Taxi Funding Discussed at City Council Meeting

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 -- 8:29 AM

-A loan bid was accepted for maintenance, to the city?s water systems, at the Neillsville City Council meeting on Tuesday.

The city received four bids from various banks. The interest rate on the $300,000 dollar loan ranged from 2% up to 4.75%.

The city selected the lowest bid of 2% from Citizens State Bank. The loan will be used to improve and repair the SCADA System, the filter media, and the VFD Pump motors.

Another item brought up, is the possibility that the City of Neillsville could continue to receive 5311 funding for their taxi service. Earlier this year, the city found out it could loose that funding from the Department of Transportation, which provides $39,500 dollars, because the city?s population fell below 2500 people as that is a requirement to receive the grant.

Mayor Steve Mabie and Councilmen Chuck Glassbrenner attended the Stanley City Council Meeting to extend the service to them and include Stanley?s population in with Neillsville?s, putting the number above 2500, thus being eligible for the funding.

The City of Stanley was very receptive to the idea, but no further action was taken.
