Unique Form of Art Coming to Granton

Friday, September 7th, 2012 -- 8:17 AM

-A former Granton resident will be bringing a unique form of art to the Granton area for Granton?s Fall Fest this weekend.

Jay Parker was introduced to Barn Quilts by friends of his from New York. The Barn Quilt itself started in 2001 when Donna Sue Groves wanted to honor her mother, an avid quilter. Donna Sue painted a quilt square to be placed on the family?s barn for all to see.

Jay will show you how to make a Barn Quilt at his demonstration on Saturday. You won?t be working with fabric though, as Barn Quilts are painted on two 8x8 squares of wood.

Jay said, ?I thought that bringing this idea to my central Wisconsin hometown of Granton, an area of the state this idea had not yet reached, would be a great way to generate tourism for the town. Just as importantly, it draws attention to the area?s older barns, which depict fast-disappearing forms of rural architecture."

Jay continued saying, ?For Granton, a small farm community that appreciates its rural traditions, barn quilts are a great fit. I?m hoping that by making a trail of barn quilts throughout the county, we can bring people from all over to see.?
