Business as Usual at Neillsville's City Council Meeting

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 -- 1:03 PM

-It was business as usual at the Neillsville City Council Meeting on Tuesday.

Regarding public works, the council was informed that the city is preparing for the final round of paving which is expected to occur after Labor Day. Dave Flynn, Director of Public Works, also said that the streets need to be swept and storm drains need to be cleaned.

The board also approved the replacement of the Variable Frequency Drive Pump Motors at the Buster Plant. The lowest bid received was $13,084, but if a rebate comes, it could be a thousand dollars less. Dave said that replacing the motors will help the city save money on their electric bill.

The city also approved that an old sewer truck be salvaged for scrap, in which they could get $400 to $500 dollars compared to the $100 they would get if they sold it.

Finally, the city approved the replacement of 8 anodes in the Sludge Storage Tank at the treatment plant. The tank is 15 years old and the anodes are sacrificial. They served their purpose and by replacing them, they should last another 15 to 20 years. The cost for that project is $9,850.

Deanna Heiman, Executive Director of the Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce gave a report about the UW-Extension Conrad agent and her focus groups about the City of Neillsville and the Shop Local 30 campaign.
