Greenwood School Board Hears COVID-19 Incident Report

-The Greenwood School Board heard a COVID-19 update at their recent meeting.
District Administrator Todd Felhofer stated the Clark County Health Department has provided the district a very tentative staff vaccine date of March 11th. The board also heard an instructional update and the staff will be meeting to address the achievement concerns at the middle school level.
The board also tabled any action on the possible E-Learning day on March 19th as current conditions are trending in a positive direction. The board will reconsider this date at the March 8th board meeting if conditions deteriorate.
The board also reviewed an initial draft of the 2022-2023 school calendar and received the required mid-year review of the AGR (SAGE) program at the elementary school.
The board also approved the emergency application to create a Co-op with Loyal for Softball this spring 2021. The board will consider a formal co-op application next year.
The board also reaffirmed that building use requests will be evaluated on a monthly basis and focus will continue to be on those events which are district sponsored.
The board also received an update on the Senior Awards Event and the 2021 Graduation Ceremony. Planning is underway for both events, it is the intent for these to be conducted in-person.
The board also received 6 months of data on the LED lighting project. District is saving around $2000/month on electricity costs. The board also received a financial update from Ms. Zimmer, reviewed the January Enrollment Report, received an update on the Health Insurance renewal process, and tabled action on request from the Association for Equity in Funding of a supplemental membership payment.
The board also received the NEOLA 29-2 Policy Update and tabled any action on the District Substitute Teacher position pending more information on substitute usage. They will reconsider this at the March meeting.
The board also received a proposed adjusted teacher longevity compensation model to be reviewed at the March meeting, approved Teagan Mayenschein as substitute teacher/support staff, and approved two volunteers.
The board also accepted a donation from Forward Bank for $408.49 from their Charitable Giving Money Market customers. These funds will be used in the athletic department. The district also recognized the donation from the family of Bernie Karlen of a book for each elementary school student. Mrs. Karlen taught for many years in Greenwood.
The board heard the Committee Reports. The board heard the CESA 10 Report. Board Member Mark Shain reported on the January CESA Board meeting. There were presentations on Special Education and Educational Equity.
Board Member Jerome Krempasky reported on the first WASB State Convention. He also reported on the Employee Relations Committee from January 12th. He stated that the 2022-2023 calendar was discussed. Staff concerns included balancing in-person instruction with virtual instruction. However, overall, staff morale is positive.
The board also heard a presentation. Michele Green, District Technology Integration Specialist, and Linda Schmitt, District Technology Coordinator, presented an update on the 1:1 Computer Initiative implemented in September.
The board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Elementary Principal Joe Green provided an update on Summer School 2021; an after school homework resource time kicked-off on February 8th; notices regarding 4K registration for the 2021-2022 school year have been sent out; and parent-teacher Conferences scheduled for February 25th will be done via email and phone call as they were in October.
Mr. Felhofer provided an update on the state mask mandate. Should the mask mandate be eliminated, the district has a policy to continue to require the wearing of masks inside of district buildings; a status review of GEERS, ESSER I and ESSER II funds was provided; and the state budget for the 2021-2023 biennium is looking a little better, but it will likely be a very difficult process.
Also, the first district promotional billboard went up on January 13th; work continues on improving the block schedule structure; and Parent-Teacher conferences scheduled for February 25th at the high school will be via email or phone call.
Finally, during the communication from the public, a community member shared he heard about a program where classrooms could get $700 for computers. He also suggested that Greenwood look to co-op in all sports.
