Wounded Oak Creek Police Officer Released from Hospital

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012 -- 8:24 AM

-The Oak Creek police officer wounded by a gunman at a Sikh temple earlier this month is out of the hospital.

Police Lt. Brian Murphy was among the first officers to respond when white supremacist Wade Michael Page opened fire at the temple Aug. 5. Page had already killed six people and wounded three others. He shot Murphy nine times from close range before later killing himself.

Murphy was hospitalized, initially in critical condition but upgraded to satisfactory condition. He was released Wednesday afternoon.

A second shooting victim remains in critical condition. A third was released last week, and the fourth was treated for minor injuries on the day of the shooting.

A hospital spokeswoman says Murphy has asked the media to respect his privacy.
