Leadership Marshfield Announces Sunflower Project

Friday, May 3rd, 2024 -- 12:00 PM

Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month?

And what better way than to shine a light than to share a Leadership Marshfield 2024 team project focused on just that: mental health awareness in our community. Introducing "The Sunflower Project".

The Sunflower Project is an awareness campaign initiative created by Derek Helm, Jenni Jane Smith, Makayla Howard, and Peggy Sue Behselich. The project aims to help those in our community who are facing mental health challenges while raising awareness to reduce the stigma surrounding seeking help.

Sunflowers symbolize resilience and warmth, just like our community. They reach for the light, reminding us that even in dark times, there's always hope and support available.

They’re  scattering uplifting signs throughout Marshfield's parks and trails, as well as in the high school and middle school. These signs prominently display the message: "You're not alone; don't struggle alone."

Along with uplifting quotes, they include the numbers for 211 United Way Community Resources and 988 mental health and suicide prevention services, aiming to raise awareness and provide immediate assistance.

While empowering our community with the knowledge to help those who need it. Keep your eyes peeled for the signs. They'll be blooming around Marshfield's walking trails and parks along with Marshfield High School and Middle School from late May to early June 2024.

Let's create a nurturing environment where everyone feels empowered to seek help and thrive. Together, we can make a difference! Stay tuned for updates and share the sunshine with "The Sunflower Project."
