On Friday, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department celebrated the 28-year career of Deputy Russell "Russ" Gage.

Prior to his time at the Marathon County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Gage worked for the Edgar Police Department, Marathon City Police Department, Greenwood Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Office.

In 2006 Deputy Gage began his career with our Office and began making contributions almost immediately. During his time with the Office, Deputy Gage served as a Field Training Officer, training many of the deputies that are serving the community today.

Deputy Gage would later transfer to the Warrant and ID team where he assisted in the transport of many of their inmates to facilities across Wisconsin and across the country. Deputy Gage served on the SWAT team on both the Entry Team and as a Sniper and helped to advance both of those teams.

In addition to his SWAT team duties, Deputy Gage was one of the original instructors of what is now recognized as one of the premier SWAT Sniper trainings in Wisconsin.

In addition to his assigned duties, Deputy Gage's ability to work almost any piece of equipment and incredible "MacGyver" skills, helped to expand their training capabilities at their range, increasing the skill and knowledge of many on the team.

They will miss all that he brought to the team. They wish him all the best in retirement.
