Check Fraud Suspect In Custody

(WEAU) -The Wisconsin Crime Alert Network says a check fraud suspect is now in custody.

According to the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, on January 25th, 31-year-old Michael Anderson attempted to cash a fake check at a bank in Black River Falls and was taken into custody by the Black River Falls Police Department.

According to an initial press release from the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, on January 9th, a suspect opened checking accounts at Dairy State Bank and Citizen’s Bank in Menomonie. The suspect used a fake, Georgia driver’s license with the name John Southwood with a date of birth of May 18, 1988, to open the accounts and told the bank tellers he was a truck driver.

The press release says on January 12th, between approximately 8:52 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. the suspect cashed fake checks at Citizens State Bank branches located in Hudson, Roberts, Woodville, and Elmwood totaling over $11,000. The suspect also cashed two other fake checks at Dairy State banks located in Menomonie and Downsville totaling over $4,000.
