(Raymond Neupert, WRN) It's time to take some precautions for your furry friends outdoors.

It's time to take some precautions for your furry friends outdoors. Lisa Bernard with the Dane County Humane Society says when the wind chill gets below 20 degrees, you should be limiting outdoor time. "Keep activities outside with dogs at 15 minutes or less, because dogs can get frostbite within about 30 minutes."

Bernard continued, "Shortening those walks on those really bitter cold days, maybe not even going for much of a walk outside and instead creating different activities for them to do indoors."

Bernard says you want to be sure to clean your dog after a walk so they aren't tracking in or licking road and sidewalk salt. "Having maybe a towel close to the door that you can wipe their feet off would be good."
