Be Alert Around Farm Machinery On Roads
Saturday, October 5th, 2013 -- 7:29 am

Fall brings more movement on our rural roads. In addition to the school busses transporting our children to their destinations, motorists need to be aware that Fall brings an increase in the amount of heavy machinery and equipment that is travelling from farms to fields and back again.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department wants to remind people that farm equipment is identified as slow moving vehicles, and on occasion, may impede the flow of traffic as that equipment travels about. Motorists need to remain alert when meeting this equipment, and proceed past the machinery in a patient and safe manner when it is appropriate to do so.

Illegally passing this farm machinery in marked no passing zones, or on the right, is a violation of the Wisconsin Traffic Statutes. Proceeding with due caution and awareness will make travelling our rural roads safer, and will ultimately minimize the potential for traffic crashes or other enforcement action to be taken.
