WIAA State Girls Softball Championships:

Division 4:
Thorp (28-2) won its first State championship by topping Southwestern (25-2) 9-2 in the Division 4 final. The Cardinals scored first with three runs in the second inning. They increased the lead to 4-0 in the third inning on a Wildcats’ throwing error.
The Cardinals scored a run in the 4th and added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to clinch the title.
Lizzy Schimke went the distance to record the win. She surrender eight hits and struck out eight. Offensively, Ellie Zurakowski and Taylor Stroinski each had three hits for the Cardinals.

Division 1:
Stevens Point (29-3) won its membership-leading ninth State championship with a 16-4 victory over Watertown (22-6) in the Division 1 final Saturday at Goodman Diamond.
The Panthers’ pounded out 20 hits in the game, one short of the tournament record.

Division 2:
New Berlin West (26-5) edged Delavan-Darien (25-7) 2-1 in the Division 2 final to win its first State title. Jennah Speth took the loss despite setting a State Tournament record with 36 strikeouts in two games.

Division 3:
Laconia (29-0) finishes the season undefeated en route to its second straight Division 3 State championship with a 3-2 win over Grantsburg (26-3) in the final.
