Neillsville Finance Committee Prepares 2014 Budget, Part 1

-The Finance Committee has been busy in the past couple weeks as they prepare the 2014 City of Neillsville Budget.

Police Chief Brad Lindner presented the proposed budget for the police department. For the most part, there were minor increases and decreases throughout the budget.

Under the Police Administration Account, the biggest increase was in the Police Training Line with an increase of $1,750. That increase was due to raising hotel costs, however, Chief Lindner did equal out that portion of the budget by removing $1,750 from the Uniforms and Equipment Line of the budget. All-in-all, the Police Administration Account saw an increase of $437.

In the Police Auto Account, everything stayed the same except the removal of $26,869 from this year to next year and the reason behind that is because Neillsville doesnít need to purchase a new squad next year because it was done this year.

In the end, the Total Non-Salary Lines for 2014 came to $69,517 compared to 2013ís $95,949, but, once again, that decrease is mostly contributed to the fact that Neillsville is not buying a squad car next year like they did this year.

Another item of note from Chief Lindnerís report is that there has been interest in starting the K-9 Program again for the city. The program is a non-budget item and Listeman Funds have been carried over to pay for it. Also, it canít be done right now as six weeks of training is needed for the handler and the department isnít fully staffed right now.
