Even as people are turning to bigger and bigger vehicles to get from Point A to Point B, the owner of the Central Wisconsin Horse Sale says the old-fashioned way of getting around is as "popular as ever".

"It's come a long ways," reflects Randy Reineck who runs the sale with his wife Julie. "The first time we had a sale, it took 3 1/2 hours to do the whole sale - now this sale will take four full days."

That "frist sale" took place twenty-six years ago.

"It started at the Granton Sale Barn," Reineck says. "When I worked for Midwest Livestock, a couple of us wanted to have a horse sale. Midwest Livestock ran it for awhile. After a few years, I just kind of took over."

Now, its known as one of the largest events of its kind in the country drawing thousands of people from the Midwest - and beyond - to the Clark County Fairgrounds in Neillsville.

Equipment and odds and ends are sold on Wednesday; horse collars, harnesses and driving horses are sold Thursday; draft horses are sold Friday; and horse tack, saddle horses and ponies are sold Saturday.

Around 800 horses will be sold by Saturday night, Reineck estimates.
