NEW "TABOR" MOVING FORWARD
Wednesday, April 12th, 2006 -- 2:25 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The new version of TABOR cleared a hurdle Wednesday afternoon as a key Assembly committee recommends amending the Wisconsin Constitution to limit state and local government spending.

The legislation will likely get a vote by the full Legislature later this month.

On a 7-6 vote, the Assembly Ways and Means Committee recommended the amendment, despite concerns of some legislators that it was being rushed through. The full Legislature would have to approve the amendment this spring and then again during the 2007-'08 session before it would go to voters in a statewide referendum.

The proposed Constitutional amendment was amended to put limits on future pay raises for local government unions Tuesday afternoon.
