Around 35 milk cows perished in an early morning barn fire Wednesday.

The Neillsville Fire Department was called to the blaze at W6001 Suckow Road in the Town of Weston. The Town of Weston is north of Neillsville.

Fire Chief Matt Meyer says they were paged out at 1:50 a.m. The barn was a total loss, but there were no injuries. The crew remained on the scene until around 7:30 a.m.

Crews from Loyal and Greenwood offered tanker assistance as around 61,500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze.

Meyer said some heifers were able to escape the fire.
