COUNTY BOARD MEETS IN COLBY

The Clark County Board had a busy meeting Thursday night in Colby.

The meeting was the last for longtime board member Frank Nikolay of Abbotsford. He decided not to seek reelection this year.

The Board took action on nine resolutions. Here are some highlights:

  • After lengthy discussion, the Board voted 16-11 to table a resolution that would have increased the salaries of elected officials.
  • The Board narrowly passed a resolution requesting the state legislature oppose the Wisconsin Taxpayer Protection Amendment. The vote was 14-13.
  • And, on the same vote, the Board passed a resolution requesting Chippewa Valley Technical College not function as a community college.

That resolution was prompted by CVTC’s proposed two-year Associate of Science Collegiate Transfer Degree Program in liberal studies.

Clark is the third county in CVTC’s 11-county district to pass this resolution, claiming the program falls “outside their stated mission” and duplicates what’s already being offered through the UW System at a cost to district taxpayers.
