-A Stratford man made an appearance in Marathon County Court on Friday.

Thirty-year-old William Bowden has charges of homicide by drunken driving, OWI, and others filed against him after the death of his friend Timothy Spindler in January.

The two men were ice fishing Jan. 7 on the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir when the vehicle Bowden was driving broke through the ice. Bowden escaped, but the 34-year-old Spindler drowned.

Bowden appeared with his attorneys Damon and John Stichert, Ken Heimerman appeared for the state and Judge Greg Grau oversaw the proceedings.

The defense questioned four motions that were brought up and decide to take care of the evidentiary motions. In the end only two of them were discussed as the state had only received two motions the day before and the court hadn’t received those two at all.

A ruling was made by the judge regarding the first two motions: to suppress several statements and an alleged illegal arrest and a blood draw issue.
