Congressman Duffy Visits Neillsville, Part 4

-Representative Sean Duffy was in Neillsville on Monday to hear thought and opinions from area residents.

One resident asked, “If a budget is decided on, can it be balanced and ready to go this year?”

Congressman Duffy said, “It sounds like we’ll be able to get the Senate to pass a budget for the first time in four years, since we passed the “No budget, No pay” act. However, it’s going to take 25-30 years to balance out spending and put us on the right trajectory.”

Another resident asked about FEMA. “Is there some way FEMA could be a little more modest? They're building all these storm shelters with working toilets and I don’t have that in my basement, where I go for bad weather.”

Duffy responded, “I don’t mind helping out where it’s needed and I think the shelters are a good thing. However, I do believe that if we do provide help somewhere, we need to know where that money is coming from.”

He continued, “A 60 billion dollar aid bill is given to the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Which, I’m glad we’re helping, but there was nothing in the bill as to how it’s going to be paid for. There’s no balance. We did pass a bill that bans earmarks though.”
