NEW "TABOR" BILL COULD BE UNVEILED SOON

We could find out this week, what the newest version of TABOR looks like.

The actual title; "Taxpayer Bill of Rights," has gone by the wayside, in favor of "Taxpayer Protection Act." But the chief negotiator in the state Senate, Republican Glenn Grothman, promised unabated enthusiasm for this constitutional amendment to limit taxes and spending. "The overwhelming majority of state Senate Republicans are committed," to the amendment's passage, said Grothman.

While Grothman called taxes the number one issue in the state, and blames them for of host of ills, Ed Huck with the Wisconsin Alliance of Cities said this constitutional amendment doesn't look good to his members. "It just has a tremendous amount of problems for us."

The problem, said Huck, is that the Taxpayer Protection Act deals not just with taxes and spending, but with revenues, and the state's shared revenue program to local municipalities has gone down by six percent in the last ten years.
