Future of Knobby Ridge Trail System Discussed

Lack of communication and interest in maintenance was a common theme at Wednesday's Forestry and Parks Committee meeting.
The members of the Committee said that this has been a problem for over two years and the county is ready to go either way with the Knobby Ridge Trail System. Fix the trails and use them to benefit the county or wash their hands of the system and sell it.
The committee said that the stipulation, since the trails have been made, would be that the Knobby Ridge Trail Riding Club would maintain the system.
Several members of various trail riding clubs, who had driven as far away as Madison, were present and insisted that they want to fix the trails to use them again. However, they informed the committee that they were not aware of the seriousness of the problem. They said the club had not spoken to them about everything going on with the system.
The committee will be inspecting the trails on September 26th. At that point they will start making a plan and decision regarding the future of the trails.
