BANK WARNS OF NEW PHONE SCAM
Monday, February 6th, 2006 -- 2:30 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Mid Wisconsin Bank says area people are reportedly getting scam phone calls from “Nationwide Verification Corporation”. The caller states their checking account number has been compromised because of an automatic payment or internet order. They then will request that the individual get their checkbook and verify their account information.

In some cases, the callers have used intimidation and threatening language to get people to give out their account information.

Mid Wisconsin Bank representatives say you should never give out account information to anyone requesting it by phone. Your financial institution will not ask you to provide this information, nor will any legitimate agency. Instead, you should hang-up and call your local law enforcement agency or financial institution.
