KIND'S OFFICE AVAILABLE TO HELP LAND O' LAKES EMPLOYEES

U.S. Congressman Ron Kind says his office will help workers affected by the Land O’ Lakes plant closing.

"It's always very tough when you have a plant closing like this," Kind says. "I've got a lot of relatives in the Greenwood area so I know how important that factory is."

The La Crosse Democrat says Land O’ Lakes employees and their families can inquire about worker assistance services by contacting his La Crosse district office.

"There's a lot of employment services. I'm going to be taking a look at the availability of job training funds - if someone is interested in going back to school to upgrade their skills," Kind says.

Land O’ Lakes officials sited dwindling milk production as the main reason they’re closing their Greenwood cheddar-making facility. Kind says state residents need to be aware of the trend, and it’s potential impact on area economies.

"We have a lot of processing plants in the upper-midwest, but now that is shifting out west. They've got a lot of huge corporate farms that are producing more milk. Their milk production is going up every year," Kind notes.

Land O’ Lakes employees can call Kind’s La Crosse office toll-free at (88cool.gif 442-8040.
