-A Stratford man made an appearance in Marathon County Court on Monday.

Thirty-year-old William Bowden has charges of homicide by drunken driving, OWI, and others filed against him after the death of his friend Timothy Spindler in January.

The two men were ice fishing Jan. 7 on the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir when the vehicle Bowden was driving broke through the ice. Bowden escaped, but the 34-year-old Spindler drowned.

District attorney Ken Heimerman called Detective Dennis Blaser, Deputy Matthew Anderson, and Deputy Coroner Jessica Will, and Dr. Betancourt to testify that Spindler died due to Bowden’s negligence.

Judge Greg Grau found probable cause for the case to proceed to trial. Bowden’s next court date will be in September.
