Secretary of DATCP Visits Clark and Wood Counties

-Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Ben Brancel, paid a visit to Marshfield and Abbotsford on Thursday.
Ben started talking about some of the operations his department is involved in. They take care of land and water issues, animal health, protect consumers from crooked businesses and much more.
Ben talked about Governor Walker’s 30 by 20 initiative which is the goal to have Wisconsin producing 30 billion pounds of milk by 2020. Ben said that people thought this would occur naturally in the state anyway, but that was before the drought of 2012 hit Wisconsin.
Ben said they have done several things to help drought stricken farmers, including opening CRP lands in order to get access to feed for farmers cattle.
Citizens had an opportunity to voice concerns to Ben as well.
