SOME FAIRCHILD RESIDENTS BENEFIT FROM CLERICAL ERROR

Fourteen rural Fairchild property owners will have their tax bills cut in half. A town clerk made a mistake on the bills sent to town residents who live in the Augusta school district.
The state Department of Revenue found the clerk calculated the school district tax using rural Fairchild's entire assessed value of $20-million dollars, and not the portion taxed by Augusta schools worth about $2-million.
Fairchild Town Chairman Duane Merritt says the town may have to borrow to cover it missing revenue.
