-A Marshfield man was convicted of burglarizing a church in Wood County Circuit Court on Monday.

Derik Fries, age 21, apologized for his actions in court before his sentencing.

Fries had vandalized a Marshfield church, stole and broke several items, and even started a fire.

Judge Greg Potter sentenced Fries to three years in prison, four years of extended supervision to follow his prison sentence for marijuana possession as a subsequent offender and burglary as a repeat offender. Fries also must pay court costs plus $16,354.97 restitution, undergo any counseling deemed necessary and maintain employment or education.

Judge Potter said the system had given Fries many opportunities to help himself and turn his life around, including his participation in Wood County Drug Court.

Instead, he continued to abuse substances, even committing a felony while out on a $10,000 bond posted by his parents.
