Two central Wisconsin residents charged with hate crimes against Amish were Taylor County Court Tuesday.

According to the Marshfield News Herald, 19-year-old Cody Bunkelman of Medford and 17-year-old Robyn Kolecheck of Withee face eight misdemeanors with hate crime modifiers for damaging several Amish properties west of Medford.

Bunkelman told at least one friend, "Let's go mess with the Amish," according to the criminal complaint.

Because all crimes were directed at the Amish, The Taylor County district attorney enhanced with hate crime "modifiers" criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct charges.

The modified charges make all the charges felonies.

Bunkelman and Kolecheck each could face up to 16 years in prison and $80,000 in fines.
