Donated Home Jumps the Gun on Spencer Fire Department

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

-Firefighters planned to burn down a vacant home in rural Spencer just not as soon as Thursday.

According to the Marshfield News Herald, the Spencer Fire Department was called to a fire in the town of Brighton at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

Captain Jerry Endries said the vacant home had been donated for controlled burning and firefighter training exercises, but Thursday's fire was unexpected. They hadn’t planned on burning the home until April 28th.

The department held a controlled burning session Wednesday night, and Endries said he thinks Thursday morning's fire might have been started by a hot ember that remained.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within an hour and no one was injured.
